Description

The CERMAT2 project aims to train young researchers in understanding the modelling of Solid Mechanics problems applied to the process and design of advanced ceramics in a synergic collaboration between academia and industry, in view of social developments related to enhancement of industrial production and pollution reduction. The objective will be pursued by a training-through-research methodology focused on:

  1. improvement of processes related to ceramic powder compaction and design of ceramic pieces;
  2. fundamental understanding of the behaviour of granular and composite materials;
  3. development of multifunctional ceramic materials and structures.

The CERMAT2 network involves five Academic Institutions (UNITN specialized in Solid Mechanics, with expertise on ceramics; RUT specialized in Computational and Experimental Mechanics and Processing; UoL specialized in Applied Mathematics; AU specialized in Mathematical Modelling; BU specialized in the application of Inverse Analysis theory to material characterization) and three Technology and Production Units (CEREL, a productive unit of an applied research institute, specialized in developing ceramic materials and manufacture technologies; ES, a SME operating in the field of Computer-Aided-Engineering, Virtual Prototyping, process simulation and optimization of design and production processes; VESUVIUS, a SME part of the VESUVIUS group present around the world, manufacturer of ceramics, refractory products, and flow control systems).
