FORMATION AND ORGANISATION

Polish Member Committee of the World Energy Council (MC WEC) is the national committee representing Poland in the international energy organisation named World Energy Council - WEC. The organisation has been created in 1924 in London and Poland was one of the founding member countries.

World Energy Council is the leading non-governmental organisation dealing with the issues of all forms of energy. WEC comprises almost 100 national Member Committees, representing over 90% of primary energy consumption of the world.

Detailed information on WEC can be found at the internet site www.worldenergy.org

Polish Member Committee is active from the creation of WEC, with the only break during the Second World War. In the post-war period until 1997 the Polish MC WEC was functioning within the structures of the energy ministries and was supervised by the appropriate ministers. During that time the Polish MC had no legal personality and its activities were financed mostly by the electricity sector. In 1997 the MC has been transformed into the self-governing association, acquired the legal personality and became independent from the government authorities.
