In the final panel discussion representatives of Poland, Italy, Hungary and Germany jointly came to the conclusion that the most promising future version for biogas is the use of biomethane as fuel in public transport. Further it was agreed that combined heat & power production is a good opportunity, but it should always be pointed out that local supply and as well local demand should always be the first to consider.
Summarising there are difficulties and barriers but as well many opportunities for the sustainable usage of biogas in Central Europe. The situation can well be described with the words of the famous Slovenian author Srečko Kosovel: "Gnoj je zlato in zlato je gnoj." ("Dung is gold and gold is dung.”)
